Manish Malhotra’s festive fashion update: Mustard-pink best colour for men; wine-red hit at weddings

Manish Malhotra likes to add 'a little bit of drama' to his outfits with a scarf.

The upcoming festive and wedding seasons are the time to experiment with colours and fabric, suggests fashion designer Manish Malhotra.

A hint of drama
“The festive season is the best time to experiment with colours. I’d suggest coloured kurtas, like deep red, pink, or mustard, with some Oriental thread work for an Indian look.

“Pair it with a slim pant, or if you gravitate more towards Indo-Western or Western, you can go for a plain asymmetrical kurta with pyjamas or denims. Pair it with loafers for drama. To take it a notch higher, don a bandi over a kurta (but only if you’re comfortable).”

Season’s predictions
“This wedding season will see an intermix of modern Indian that is traditional yet fun. Colours like mustard and wine red will be in vogue. As will lots of geometrical prints — chevron, stripes, angular shapes, etc. I also see a lot of men choosing flowy textured fabrics, and my favourite — velvets. Winter weddings are ideal for opulence and velvets. Choose darker colours, jewel tones, lots of layers, heavier embroidery, and something with bling.”

One-stop solution
“Shoes are a deal maker or breaker. So, get an interesting pair of shoes to complete every outfit.”

My style sense
“What matches your sensibilities becomes your fashion. My fashion sense comes from observing people, texture, colours, architecture, nature, flora and fauna. Everything has something unique in it.”

Your personal style
“Always black, it covers your belly fat well (laughs). I like minimal flair for men for most occasions, but one should not stay away from experimentation. My personal style is minimal with a little bit of drama. For example, I may add a little texture to an outfit with a scarf.”

Inside Manish Malhotra’s Diwali Party: Nushrat Shimmers In Pink, Shilpa Shetty Rocks Sharar…

A Star-Studded Diwali Bash

23 Oct, 2019

Fashion designer and entrepreneur Manish Malhotra threw a Diwali bash for his Bollywood friends at his residence in Mumbai on Monday and the biggest names from tinsel town were in attendance. Filmmakers Karan Johar, Ekta Kapoor, Tahira Kashyap, Luv Ranjan and actors Nushrat Bharucha, Pooja Hegde, Shilpa Shetty, Vaani Kapoor, Aparshakti Khurana and Sophie Choudry arrived at the party in style. The stars had a gala time at the bash as they bonded over food, drinks and played cards together. Oh, and as expected, they took plenty of selfies which are now generating a lot of buzz online. Here are some of the major highlights of the party that you may have missed.

Shoe mantra
“I personally love casual sneakers and slip-ons, which are dramatic and showcase your personality. It has become so mainstream and a part of our culture. Never wear shoes that are not comfortable; they hamper your movement, ease, and eventually, your appeal. I personally avoid wearing plain leather oxford shoes.”

A faux-pas you’d never make
“An all-leather look.”

Skip the square
“For a business dinner, replace your shirt with a T-shirt, opt for a singlebreasted jacket, and complete your look with sneakers. Skip pocket squares, they are passé. Never forget to add your own style and make a statement. It could be anything like a pin, scarf, belt, embroidery/emblem, belt, shoes, anything that’s formal yet stylish.”

An accessory you wish would make a comeback
“Vintage bags.”

One colour men should consider
“Mustard or muted pink. It works well across seasons and helps one stand out in a gathering.”

The essentials
“A solid white shirt, well-fitted black blazer, a perfect scent that suits you, an Indian outfit (kurta-pyjama), and sneakers/ loafers.”.

Style Icons
“Ranveer Singh is really having fun with his clothes and that’s a great thing. Amitabh Bachchan is a timeless star, his sophistication is of the highest order.”
